Installation is very straightforward: simply download the x86 or AMD64 CD image and install. However, since this is a beta things are in heavy flux — I would highly recommend upgrading to the latest packages before installing the VMware Tools since several bugs (like the infinitely multiplying window when mounting the VMWare Tools image) have been fixed.<br /><br />Select “Install VMware Tools” from the Virtual Machine menu and then copy the tar to your Ubuntu desktop. Running the vmware-install.pl as superuser will net you a mostly functional system, but drag/drop files and mouse ungrab will not work.1<br /><br />To get VMHGFS working (drag/drop file sharing), you will need to follow these instructions:<br />Navigate to vmware-tools-distrib/lib/modules/source and untar vmhgfs.tar. Inside the vmhgfs-only directory that is created there is a file called page.c.<br />Edit this file and do the following2<br />- page = __grab_cache_page(mapping, index);<br />+ page = grab_cache_page_write_begin(mapping, index, flags);<br />Move the vmhgfs.tar file to vmhgfs-old.tar and create a new tar with the modified file<br />tar cvf vmhgfs.tar vmhgfs-only<br />Run the vmware-install.pl script (as superuser)<br /><br />At this time I haven’t managed to get mouse ungrab working, but let me know if you figure out a way! The vmmouse driver for X.org is available via apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse, but does not appear to work any better than the one that comes with VMware Tools 7.9.3. Hopefully a driver compatible with X.org 7.5 shows up soon.<br />You may need to run sudo apt-get install build-essential to get the basic build environment. I don’t remember if I did this when building mine. ↩<br /><p>For those unfamiliar with diff syntax, remove the first line and replace it with the second line. ↩<br /></p><p><br /></p><p><strong>Skin Ubuntu!!!</strong></p><p><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuPMSjzPCwXa3-DT56GzaOw9f6A0DWmso8rW8x7Ikag8gj09ZB4vaxkgDBnRahYgt7xwzdEhPqo94fuORdLuMGG5UL5IL2NPm5vo2u5fBh2ciY8gjwA-h6rg8YqLUGjPS4WOC8sq3VNOe7/s400/ubuntu-netbook-remix-3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321016234562833474" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEy60Iws8MSvHbFHIepZf2G1J_XwhBcreHMMBCd7aDaBw4OzCWq0HPh-bJq5j3tcwPssEA_ydNrTWWlgNMgw9n5e0OItOlYwoUJ0KtC9ci_a7pDjEB6WQQ57l94M1JLuDOvQsX7xpvLHFu/s400/Ubuntu_8_04_by_jonathanhotono.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321133563339336802" /><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_52Vw6JFjgCk3UvHXjJY-hWgFRLU-wno_O5MKQnvfmFFzjUw2iJYTaNLTVxZAnnTQp0ADzaYc85YSSbBYCAQnhZwXJ6iUVptr7kieCq4H7PwN5_dGmCEwdUMp51NAlG2SFeF-nRMImKsO/s400/Linux___compiz_by_jonathanhotono.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321134633635966706" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQGi9e3KqUOPNB8rgxpQ0jPcmY_639QkpgWwhGgGcCXYWz3eCedvhG87xPwr894U7IKdIqpir-9Okj33210LMjIoH-LPZKWncFL7e-YEAJKBkMc5-5z_b_DNMI3SEzTles_HFZ_ohd31gk/s400/kohlenstoff.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321135973868724226" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>www.ubuntu.com</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>4bisnislaptophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06597753697189958385noreply@blogger.com258tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202169460534778760.post-36423073491498690002009-04-04T01:28:00.000-07:002009-04-05T02:37:14.925-07:00VAIO Z is impeccably refined<p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 77px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLLBDgV5CZhLhVBsP0O4aw-msqoPKtd-ac5e1QLcUBCmNnymXq75ptpsIJdAkRl5n60wbn4J13ESkznzBqWGrjRh8tf-yXsH6GXfWOqrg5RqLSLYqt_FgPARf6MupFu50CS75FTjLMFtMI/s400/vaio+z2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320754307467526466" /><br /><p>From formal black finish and carbon fibre body to slim portability, the VAIO Z is impeccably refined. Email attachments and web pages load twice as fast on 3G networks as on 2G EDGE networks.1 And since iPhone 3G seamlessly switches between EDGE, faster 3G, and even faster Wi-Fi, you always get the best speeds possible.<br />Talk and browse. At the same time.<br /><br />iPhone already gives you mobile multitasking. But 3G technology lets you multitask in more places — without connecting via Wi-Fi. Since 3G networks enable simultaneous data and voice, you can talk on the phone while surfing the web, checking email, or using Maps. All from your 3G cellular network.<br />Go anywhere.<br /><br />iPhone 3G meets worldwide standards for cellular communications, so you can make calls and surf the web from practically anywhere on the planet. And if you’re in an area without a 3G network, iPhone connects you via GSM for calls and EDGE for data.<br />More wireless. Less space.<br /><br />iPhone 3G delivers UMTS, HSDPA, GSM, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR in one compact device — using only two antennas. Clever iPhone engineering integrates those antennas into a few unexpected places: the metal ring around the camera, the audio jack, the metal screen bezel, and the iPhone circuitry itself. And intelligent iPhone power management technology gives you up to 5 hours of talk time over 3G networks.2 That’s some of the best in the business.4bisnislaptophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06597753697189958385noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202169460534778760.post-64219465296950263612009-04-01T18:35:00.000-07:002009-04-05T02:42:25.088-07:00You replaced broken LCD screen but the new screen is not workingYou replaced the broken LCD screen in your laptop with a new screen but it’s not working. Does this sound like your problem? Let’s find out what could be wrong and how you can fix it.<br /><br />First of all, I assume that your new LCD screen is compatible with the old one. Different screens require different video cables. Make sure you new screen is compatible with your laptop.<br /><br />OK, let’s say you accidentally damaged the LCD screen in your laptop. A part of the screen still works fine but you cannot use it like that so you decided to replace the screen yourself. You can find LCD replacement instructions in service manuals or this DIY site.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiOVenRgmMfGna4uhYMmF98C18A9Y4tVJa0zWN2mk_b-ptrE1txI1lfkZ_tXJRTmdoKCpyPEnbaLJmBSITS1CN8Ql63Mpz9jJWtuLhJjL6VP9aY1_9wBMngjNMFrqgE3AtgMpXqPqdUKOd/s200/screen-not-working-1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319902427685231426" /><br /><br />You did some research and purchased a compatible screen, installed it into the laptop, turned it on and… The new screen is not working!!! What could be wrong?<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggZZtsYfMNrjNUH7ImtUufs08W-32Yiuy8xFIQd8xJzKmSatYfEPVlUhn_MfoSsvIgG9teYfzABhwN-ucNfp8uv6dW7lHHaFokSmgLdC4FvZiuO__8Fws_UALrlLyPcocZKZ_fh307hkk6/s200/screen-not-working-2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319902686772530738" /><br /><br />Before you start to panic, check all cable connections again. Check connection between the video cable, LCD screen and inverter board. Reconnect cables just in case.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8qOq9NQqCXPyZ9NZtZdzjDDrY7xt40zCeb7OI1LI13CKCXG_lNA77Ct6WK9_-6BPKL7xkopDnVkjtbcmUE7pHM8jOFX5JY-N9VooCfpx23stLRb-LcSxW1vK4emvEB4xc8Qw3e8FtO_iz/s200/screen-not-working-3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319903336760591490" /><br /><br />Take a closer look at the connection between the video cable and LCD screen. It’s possible you accidentally pulled the video cable from the connector during the screen installation.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggIMoHUiBI6SUsXnJIKwGvzFkFlUomxTM3XRp_tmnE92eVdj0t7mO9bg4Uou1TkdA0cNaJpV1pC_QYA2-gzE8VNWeJShZ9dOfCiAtyTAuAmw9guIU86mnpZ1LY_GyIeTDCzfaoq0XWEYPx/s200/screen-not-working-4.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319903726818745602" /><br /><br />The video cable has to be seated properly, all the way down.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH1oJy0KkBAVvLHbDLoFUOTjMmCdKAPAErb0jCj3WNMhR7BTkAvvatNrByN2sulHV0tZAMzyddb23R7OLg1N3aaUvJK3PHgOHrTkpAPUsaXKOfhm1PbMxkuhN6UPyGhbm_gUUUklIjSAc9/s200/screen-not-working-5.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319904226980741282" /><br /><br />Also, on some older LCD screens there are very thin pins inside the connector. Take a look inside the connector, make sure there are no damaged (bent) pins.<br />You can straighten bent pins with a very small screwdriver but this procedure requires a lot of patience and concentration.<br /><br />Fortunately, most newer LCDs have a different type of connector, without fragile pins inside.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhPX3mUsuVCzdEth7ji-3ORekFVcYAQB3yfHiTX0_HmRqsBnHlkH83hntWaJxtBcnsvJvtvMc_f8XJ4uXqZ7wJANuvnOuuH_Y4JnYbbq0t3vxP8YeucTO4IMhruiDm0Fv8DzBtSYOrpuBL/s200/screen-not-working-6.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319904680408681922" /><br /><br />OK, you have reseated all connectors and cannot see anything wrong but the new screen still is not working. What’s next?<br /><br />Remove the new screen and connect the old one. If the old one works properly (except the damaged area) but the new one is dead, apparently the new screen is defective and has to be replaced. Hopefully it has warranty.<br /><br />Here’s another scenario. The new screen kinda works. You can see a very faint image but there is no backlight.<br /><br />If that’s the case, disconnect the new screen from the inverter board and plug in the old screen instead, as it shown on the picture below. If the backlight inside the old screen lights up, apparently the new screen has defective backlight lamp and has to be replaced.<br /><br /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL8r4nDW69SqZMlmGJAFfKG8Ej80yCAAtCe4O8H13MeV642iCXRJtMTbtVJBmyqBzU6HWX-RqFPWZ73VBEDFftCmCu05cUMc4uiHROklVxZzG5wHv75D14qkxgzG9ccgQD6bQB0vQKtH6Y/s200/screen-not-working-7.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319904867376895554" /><br /><br /><p>Related post: Laptop has bad video on the LCD screen.
